CAPS UNITED trio of Ronald Pfumbidzai, Dominic Chungwa and Steven Makatuka were once again conspicuous by their absence when the Green Machine trimmed its squad yesterday.

Pfumbidzai has been linked with a move to big-spending How Mine, who have also snatched former Caps United skipper Tapiwa Khumbuyani.

Makepekepe assistant coach Brenna Msiska yesterday confessed the technical team was still in the dark over the talented player’s future.

“At the moment we do not know what he (Pfumbidzai) has decided to do with his future and we are worried by his continued absence from training.

“He is a very talented young man and we definitely want his services.

“We hear he has indicated that he wants to play for us again this year and we just hope it materialises,” said Msiska.

Want-away striker Chungwa and central defender Makatuka, who like Pfumbidzai, is also reportedly eyeing a lucrative move to How Mine, were also absent from yesterday’s training session.

Msiska revealed that they had trimmed their squad to 40 players from the over hundred who have been attending trials since last week.

“We will now work with these players going forward and it is from this group that we will select the final squad for the 2015 season.

“It is good that we still have a number of key players in the squad and I can say we are heading in the right direction,” he said.

Former players Leonard Tsipa and goalkeeper Itayi Chiwara, the Harare City trio of Arnold Chaka, Witness Nyamutsaka and Tongai Chiworeso as well as former Shabanie Mine ’keeper Victor Twaliki are some of the players retained for further assessment.

Shabanie Mine’s promising player Carlos Mesi, Walter Musanhu and former Chicken Inn central defender Charles Mutero are also in the squad.

Makepekepe have managed to retain the services of over 10 players who did duty for the club last season with utility player Hardlife Zvirekwi leading a cast that includes goalie Jorum Muchambo, Dominic Mukandi, Pervington Zimunya, Moses Muchenje, Godknows Mangani, Takudzwa Mahori and Carlton Muzambwa.

The Malawian trio of Gerald Phiri, Ishmael Thindwa and George “Soul Jah Love” Nyirenda is expected to return from holiday this week.
