Bye bye Harry – adios amigo!

United States President-elect Donald J. Trump’s transition staff last week issued a blanket edict requiring politically appointed ambassadors to leave their overseas posts by Inauguration Day, that is by 20 January 2017.According to several American diplomats familiar with the plan, good old Trump is breaking with decades of precedent by declining to provide even the briefest of grace periods to the likes of US Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Harry Thomas Jnr and his kith and kin.Well Harry, I really do hope that this is the last piece l will have to write about you. I never want to endure the pain of seeing a black man propagate so much hatred through the affront of a disgusting regime change agenda against fellow black brothers and sisters.

The overwhelming gusto with which you denigrated the land of your origin, the land of your great ancestors who resisted the abomination of their land, ancestors who fought bravely against servitude and subservience to a race that frantically believes that it is superior; leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth.

My stomach cringed each time you leapt to the defence of an evil regime change agenda. The energy you exuded as you supported those illegal protests and demonstrations last year made me question why black people always find the enemy amongst themselves, rather than from amongst the exploiters and manipulators.

Not even your boss Barack Obama had the audacity to look down upon fellow black people as you did here in Zimbabwe, Harry.

You really made us feel that the opposition parties in Zimbabwe are kids’ play when it comes to opposing an establishment with black people, by black people, for black people.

When you descended upon our environs, I had a bad feeling you would be worse than your predecessor Bruce Wharton. Boy, you made Bruce look like a saint!

You had demonstrations and protests going on and on in this country for the greater part of your tenure. When things got a bit too hot for that so-called pastor of #ThisFlag notoriety, you quickly arranged for his thumped-up asylum in that foreign land across the Atlantic ocean where you erroneously call home.

To keep the momentum against a democratically elected Government, you unleashed #Tajamuka on us while intermittently demanding the return of Itai Dzamara who suspiciously disappeared for your convenience so that you could find an excuse to pursue a relentless regime change agenda.

Well Harry, your President-elect did not like your conduct and that of your boss – Barack. That is why you need to go back “home” by Inauguration Day, according to a terse US State Department cable issued “without exceptions” to the likes of you.

Trump does not even care that his mandate of recalling you and your colleagues without grace periods threatens to leave the United States without Senate-confirmed envoys for months in critical nations like Zimbabwe, Germany, Canada and Britain.

In the past, administrations of both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party would often have granted extensions on a case-by-case basis to allow a handful of ambassadors such as yourself, particularly those school-going children, to remain in place for weeks or months.

But no Harry, your methods were too incompetent to be American and you continued to waste US taxpayers’ hard-earned money, pursuing a futile and rogue regime change agenda.

Trump will have none of that. All he wants is to make America great again by getting rid of overzealous envoys like you who have miserably forgotten what the real American interests are.

Trump is real. He does not pretend to be diplomatic when he does not like someone or something. That is why he has taken a hard line stance against leaving any of Obama’s political appointees in place, Harry included. He is preparing to take office on the 20th of January 2017, with a mission to dismantle many of his predecessor’s signature on foreign and domestic policy under-achievements.

I am curious how Harry’s personal life has been affected by the way the President-elect has dealt with him and other Obama under-achievers. Is he scrambling to make living arrangements in our beautiful country beyond 20 January, 2017? Will our Department of Immigration allow you to wake up in Zimbabwe on 21 January, 2017?

We have heard of Costa Rica where Ambassador Stafford Fitzgerald Haney is hunting for a house for his family which includes four school children and his wife, who has been battling breast cancer. The distraught Ambassador is struggling to figure out how to avoid moving back to the United States with five months left in the school year.

In the Czech Republic, Ambassador Andrew H. Schapiro is seeking accommodation in Prague as well as lobbying for his children’s Chicago-based school to break with policy and accept them back mid-year. Poor Harry, I know he is not authorised to comment publicly on the matter. However, had he been more friendly to our people and our Government, maybe, just maybe, we would have allowed him to celebrate President Mugabe’s 93rd birthday with us or better still, Independence Day on 18 April as we commemorate our revolutionary victory against the foes whom he pathetically supports.

With Harry, it’s just bye, bye — adios amigo! — Dubulaizitha!
