MERNA Eleanor Cremer has welcomed the recently christened Mrs Ervine, Belinda Swart, into the Zimbabwe cricket wives and girlfriends clubs, better known as the Chevrons WAGs.
Swart tied the knot to Chevrons’ middle-order batsman Craig Ervine, in a lavish ceremony held in Kariba on May 12.
The wedding was attended by most of the Zimbabwe cricket family, most notably former skipper Graeme Cremer and his wife Merna.
“She (Swart) was the beautiful bride, and the wedding absolutely gorgeous,” said Merna Cremer.
“It was held at a stunning venue in Kariba, where the wild animals, mostly hippos, added a little chorus to the wedding vows.
“It was all too surreal,” she said.
“Cricket was the theme of the wedding, so to speak, as cricketers from all over the country were in attendance.
“Seeing them dance to their favourite tour songs, from Sri Lanka tour last year, was the highlight for me.
“I think Craig must have some of those Jay Prayzah songs specially requested for the wedding reception,” she said.
Merna Cremer, or Mai Cremer as is she affectionately known as in cricket circles, has known Swart for quite some time.
“I met Belinda nine years ago, through a mutual friend who is a teacher like her, and have nothing but love for her.
“I feel we have very similar personalities in that we are two goal orientated women, and I believe that they (Craig and Belinda) complement each other very well, which is very important.
“I wish them a great marriage and a bright future!”
Mai Cremer went on to offer some advice on how it is like to be wife to a prominent cricketer.
“As far as advice is concerned, I would have to say go on lots of cricket tours and enjoy yourselves as a couple,” she said.
