FC PLATINUM midfielder Brett Amidu is a tormented soul! The 21–year-old midfielder, snapped from Dynamos at the start of the season amid high expectations, has not set Mandava alight.

Adapting to life in a small town like Zvishavane, without the support of mum and dad, is also proving to be a challenge for Amidu.

The midfielder spends most of his time away from training locked up in his room, perfecting his PlayStation skills.

“I miss my family and that is why I prefer to spend much time on my PlayStation with the few friends that I have here,” revealed Amidu.

“Sometimes we are faced with difficult situations which require us to be with our family and people who understand us. It’s not easy to be away from home and your family.”

Amidu has seen little game time at Pure Platinum Play and in May his manager George Deda threatened to withdraw the services of the midfielder and reimburse the Zvishavane side the money they paid for his transfer.

Deda later apologised for his rant.

“What I expected when I moved over is not what is happening. I had hoped for more game time in a team that plays passing football but that has not been the case,” said Amidu.

“However, with the support I am getting from coach Norman Mapeza and the club I am confident of regaining my form and taking my game to the next level.”

Amidu revealed that his elder brother Abbas, who is now plying his trade in Egypt, always gives him a lift when things get tough.

“At times I lose hope and this year has been one of my most difficult seasons, but Abba has been as supportive as he has always been since I started playing football.

“He urges me to keep working hard, assuring me things will be fine one day. He is my role model and although he is far away we talk on a daily basis.”
