BRETT AMIDU is the recipient of some nasty looks inside the FC Platinum dressing room thanks to him having an agent who reaches premature oral ejaculation.
George Deda sounds like an excitable character, one who appears not to know when to shut up and consequently one who frequently sticks his foot in his mouth.
Amidu left Dynamos for FC Platinum in the offseason and it’s safe to assume that Deda made some tidy bucks when his player signed a three year contract with the Zvishavane side.
However, the young brother to Abbas has not set Zvishavane on fire although he has reportedly made his presence felt through his mazy runs with the fairer species of Midlands State University. Last weekend Amidu’s life at Pure Platinum Play hit a new low when he was introduced as a 66th-minute substitute but only lasted 23 minutes on the park.
He was hauled off for Gerald Takwara in the 89th minute of FC Platinum’s 1-0 win over Hwange at Maglas. That episode was apparently too much for our brother Deda who felt the need to intervene – in very bad way as it turned out.
Deda took issue with Norman Mapeza’s decision and disclosed that he was writing a letter to Pure Platinum Play chair Evans Mtombeni to register his displeasure.
“It’s a letter written to the chairman of the club Evans Mtombeni concerning one of my players, Bret. If nothing improves, we (will) seek for a move during this coming window in July. It must be noted that Bret is the freshest thing to happen on the local scene at his age. “At this time of his career, and considering his age, he is not prioritising money ahead of his career,” Deda was quoted as saying by H-Metro.
He wasn’t done yet. “If it was tactical, why did (Mapeza) sub an offensive player? Was Bret the only offensive player in that game? In 25 years of my career in football, I have only seen it three times and the only person to do that was Mourinho at Chelsea. Not even great coaches like Ferguson. I haven’t seen that in Zimbabwe.”
Deda must have spent the 25 years he speaks of with his head buried in the sand. He might need to ask Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa about the number of times he has subbed a sub, including one fine midfielder by the name of Mugove Munyorovi.
Deda isn’t aware of how Francis Chandida was introduced as a sub before being taken off a few minutes later by Wieslaw Grabowski when the Polish gaffer took charge of the Warriors in a Cosafa Castle Cup match against Swaziland at the National Sports Stadium.
The Chandida incident unfolded on May 5, 2002 and that is some 15 years ago! Did Deda say he has never seen it happen in Zimbabwe over his “25 years” in football?
We could go on and on trying to school Deda but then again space on the best sports pages in Zimbabwe is always at a premium.
