Bosso, DeMbare renew rivalry Highlanders Club

HIGHLANDERS are “boldly” looking beyond Dynamos as the two old rivals get ready to renew their battle for supremacy in a NetOne Easycall Cup semi-final at Barbourfields this afternoon. The clash has been preceded by threats of a boycott from DeMbare over “unfair treatment”.
However, the Glamour Boys have made the trip to Bulawayo with the pair of Takesure Chinyama and Roderick Mutuma available for selection.
As Dynamos seek to get their focus back onto the pitch, Highlanders technical director Cosmos “Tsano” Zulu says Bosso are going for gold.“Our preparations have been going on very well and I am sure we are ready for Dynamos,” said Zulu. “I want you to listen to me very carefully and this I am going to say very boldly. We are playing a very difficult opponent in Dynamos but Highlanders are not in this tournament to get consolation from silver or bronze medals.“We are here to win this tournament and this I say very boldly and with respect. This declaration that I make to you is not an empty one but is backed by the effort we have put in our preparations.”Highlanders have been on a roll under Amini Soma-Phiri and Zulu, who took over from Bongani Mafu.
Soma-Phiri and Zulu would want to finish the season in style with a trophy in the cabinet and force a rethink among the Bosso executive that has already invited applications for the position of head coach.
Highlanders’ cause has been aided by the availability of Golden Boot winner Knox Mutizwa, who had travelled for trials at Bidvest Wits in South Africa.
Like Soma-Phiri, Dynamos’ Tonderai Ndiraya is a temporary mid-season appointee and has to prove to the Kenny Mubaiwa-led executive that he is the right man to lead the Glamour Boys.
And there is no better to do so than by winning the NetOne Easycall Cup.
“This is a very important fixture for us. Important in the sense that it’s a match which brings the whole country to a standstill and we will treat it with the respect that it deserves so that we can get a win.
“We have been in the news this past week over that issue about our players and it’s something that affected us but we have told the players to focus on the job at hand and that is Highlanders.
“We have Ocean (Mushure) and Tatenda (Mukuruva) who have just been rewarded for their individual performances so we will expect them to put in the same effort that has seen them being rewarded to help the team,” said Ndiraya.
