1405-2-1-BOOK REVIEW 1TEMPTATIONS are ever present in our lives and sometimes we end up basking in sin after succumbing to them.

The devil’s deceptive capabilities should never be under-estimated as he might derail us from the path of righteousness by making us believe that some of the life choices we make are justifiable, even when we are going against the word of God.

Legal practitioner, conference speaker and marriage counsellor, Pastor Davison Kanokanga in his book “The Love Life” clarified some of the actions that individuals take for granted and their consequences.

This powerful literature is not just a handbook on how to ensure healthy relationships, but also tackles other issues that include stress, grief and financial management.

The teachings in the book are reinforced by references from the Bible as well as previously published literature.

While I was reading the book, I got the feeling that I was reading a biblical dictionary, with most of the terminology used by Christians explained.

The book is like a church service from which Kanokanga took a sermon and put it into words, loading up strategies which believers must use to overcome obstacles and temptations.

The six main chapters consist of subheadings which make it easier to grasp the extensively explained points.

In the first chapter, “Sexual Temptation”, the pastor started off by clarifying the major types of temptation which are pride, money and sex.

“Families, great men and women of God as well as great ministries have been destroyed because of financial or sexual scandals. This is partly because there are not many churches that teach their members on the dangers of succumbing to any one of these temptations as well as what one can do when tempted,” went the narration in which the author is blaming lack of knowledge as the major catalyst of giving in to temptation.

The pastor then takes us to the Bible as he quotes Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

The chapter tears into the causes and types of sexual immorality, splitting the various threads that make up the fabric of the issue into individual sub-topics.

When temptation comes our way, sometimes it is difficult to overcome it but in this book there is a remedy, I discovered that God will always provide a way for escape.

The key to victory is in reading the word of God and 1 Corinthians 10:13, which was used by the author to support his notion says, “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way to escape, that you may not be able to bear it.”

Pastor Kanokanga went on to dig in the biblical kitchen to come up with the recipe for a healthy relationship, defining what it means to be in a relationship and exploring the problems that couples encounter as well as the solutions for solving them.

From the warning signs of a failing relationship to the pecks of a thriving one, the knowledge being imparted is of great value.

Another topic that caught my attention was “Fatal Attraction” which was defined as something or someone that entices you to sin, seducing you away from God.

Citing the example of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the author drove home an understanding of how the devil operates deceptively to lure people into evil deeds.

Although I have only touched on a few elements of the book in this review, there are other crispier details that I will leave for the next reader to devour.

The author’s knowledge of the word of God and its relevance to the subjects being discussed roused my curiosity to dig deeper and l kept flipping the pages.
