ZIMBABWE’S economic recovery will only be realised through innovation, hard work and creativity among Christians, Zimbabwe Investment Authority (ZIA) chairman Dr Nigel Chanakira has said.

Speaking at the Assigned Ministers’ Ministries International’s (AMMI) inaugural business symposium recently held in Harare under the theme “Transforming Zimbabwe’s Economy through Innovative Inventions”, Dr Chanakira highlighted that the obtaining economic situation calls for innovative and strategic thinking among believers more than anything else.

“Our current economic situation is being amplified by Christians who are failing to emulate the master innovator, who is God.

“When God created the heaven and the earth, we are told that the world was void and without form and money was never mentioned.

“But look at the world today, it’s so amazing. Surprisingly, today most people are after money (and) I ask, do you have an idea? Do you have a vision? Because money follows vision, not just a vision but a compelling vision,” he said.

He took a swipe on Christians, labelling them as lazy people who simply wait for miracles from God while they are idle.

“The very first book of the Bible talks about creativity and innovation and it was done in six days and 12 hours – Genesis 1 verse 1.

“God asked Moses what was in his hand and when he said it was a rod, God performed a miracle through that rod. Find something to do and God will bless the works of your hands.

“Unfortunately someone fooled us by telling us that we must work for five days a week and eight hours a day.

“If you have formal employment, find something to do after working for eight hours. Start a business, start a backyard garden and you will stop the economic blame-game where Government will always be on the receiving end,” said Dr Chanakira.

“Let’s come up with new ideas. For us Christians, we have an unfair advantage because our God is the master inventor.

“There are many problems that need to be solved globally – poverty, health, education, energy and peacemaking. If we find solutions to these, our economy and personal lives will never be the same again.

“As Christians let’s strive to be on top because the bottom is overcrowded,” he said.

The symposium was hosted by Apostle Freshman Gwasira, leader and founder of AMMI. Motivational speakers and entrepreneurs such as Mr Arthur Marara, Mr David Young, Mr Francis Chinjekure and Dr Bruce among others, inspired the gathering.

Bethany Pasinawako-Ngolomi, Amanda Sagonda, Vabvuwi, Tumbuka dance group and other artistes provided entertainment.
