TWIN sisters Audrey and Olga Matsanura are expected to power the Zimbabwean Badminton team after their inclusion in the squad that will participate at the Thomas and Uber Preliminaries in Mauritius next month.
The pair has been a dominant force in the doubles and they often meet in finals of most local tournaments.
The 18 year-olds have enjoyed success together from their high school days at Mabelreign Girls and now can they do it on the continent?
“It is an honor to represent Zimbabwe, it feels good that I am actually using my talent for the benefit of my country,” said Audrey.“We are well prepared, we will see how it goes,” she said.
Audrey, who is inspired by Malaysian Chinese star Lee Chong Wei, relishes her partnership with twin sister Olga.
“It is great because I understand my partner well and we credit our coach Paul Kopolo, he saw potential and believed in us,” she said.
Olga has enjoyed success at the African Schools Badminton Championships and believes it is possible to prevail at the highest level too.“It requires serious effort to pursue such dreams,” said the young champion who has won over 30 medals in local and regional competitions.
“The difference is the effort you put, if you really want to succeed you put everything that you have to try and be successful.
“With that in mind you will succeed,” she said.
Olga hopes badminton will one day become a popular sport in the country.
“Most countries start training kids as young as four years old. Just imagine starting at four years old, by the time you get to my age, 18, you will be an expert.
”So who wins when the two meet in tournaments?
“I win most of the tournaments as the first seed.“Sometimes I will be like twin can I give you a win?”, revealed Olga.
