Dan Brown is without a doubt a master of conspiracy.
While he is best known for “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons”, readers are encouraged to also get a copy of “Inferno” or “The Lost Symbol” among his other brilliant works. And with Robert Langdon as the protaganist, you can be sure that the conspiracy will run grab you by the throat and demand your attention until the very last page.
Well, Brown is back with another Langdon adventure in his latest novel, “Origin”. The book comes in my birthday month and I was over the moon when a thoughtful friend gave me a copy of “Origin” as a gift. Langdon is a Harvard Professor of Symbology and Religious Iconology, and this time he goes to the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend the unveiling of a discovery that is set to change the face of science forever. The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a 40-year-old billionaire and futurist whose dazzling high-tech inventions and audacious predictions have made him a renowned global figure.
Kirsch, who was Langdon’s student two decades earlier, says, “I am here today because I have made a scientific discovery I believe you will find startling. It is something I have pursued for many years, hoping to provide answers to two of the most fundamental questions of our human experience.”
In typical Brown style, things explode and move at such a fast pace that before you know it, the precious discovery is on the brink of being lost to the world, Langdon is fighting for survival, and the blitz of code breaking and conspiracy unravelling takes you to worlds you never imagined. There is never room for the obvious with this writer. And you will love every page. Dan Brown weaves together science and religion in an impressive manner and you will do yourself good to read “Origin” — and everything else he has given us over the years.
