Leader of an inter-denominational choir, Pastor Josh Kawara has seen his career blossom over the years.

From his school days when he used to be a cheerleader at football matches, he is now leading a 25-member group called Impact Africa.

Also known as Josh Kays, Pastor Kawara is a product of Zoe Life Changing and Grace Unlimited Ministries.

Having started his musical journey more than a decade ago in Chinhoyi, Pastor Kawara said he only realised his real calling under the mentorship of Apostles Langton and Florence Kanyati.

“Long back, I used to sing during our school soccer matches until I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 1999 when I came here (Harare). It was while I was staying with the Kanyati couple that I realised my calling,” Pastor Kawara said.

With his parents both deceased, Apostle Kanyati assumed a parental role in mentoring him.

Pastor Kawara believes his migration from Zoe Life Changing Ministries to Global Word Ministries were he now pastors was inspired by his 2013 single ‘Jesu Ari pano.’

The song has also worked wonders on Star FM programme Gospel Greats, holding its mettle among the top five tracks so far.

“The song that is being played on Star FM ‘Jesu Ari pano’ was a direct inspiration from God.

‘‘I recorded it in 2013 when we were at a crusade with Apostle Duncan Manyonda in Mbare. As I was playing the keyboard after the sermon, the words of this song came and I just began to sing it without rehearsals or anything.

“Great things happened that night; people who were at a nearby bar came and joined us.

‘‘And there was a man who was crippled who received his healing that day,” said the 28-year-old father of one.

Pastor Kawara said realising the power in his music was his turning point.

Prophet Mugandani is now his spiritual father.

Pastor Kawara has three albums to his name — Jerusalem released in 2005, NdiMwari chaiye a 2008 production as well as My Praise, My Worship which came out two years later.

The Highfield based pastor has previously worked with Kudzi Nyakudya and Samson Kingsan Nhubu, among others.

He is currently working on his fourth album that is expected to be released later this year.
