APOSTLE Patson Machengete’s latest offing, “Taking Advantage of Another Chance”, focuses attention on a section of the community whose issues are often neglected by literature. The 154-page book that was launched last week gives hope to those who would have been incarcerated.

lt was published by Justice Connection.

Apostle Machengete is the founder of The House of Refuge International Ministries (THORIM) and president of Justice Connection, a wing that ministers to people in foreign lands.

In his introduction in the book, Apostle Machengete brings out how different individuals respond to life’s experiences.

He highlights that others commit suicide when faced with challenges while others resort to crime, leading to their incarceration.

“Taking Advantage of Another Chance” is written in a casual tone that ensures the reader is engaged throughout.

The author addresses some of the questions that a prisoner might have.

He also brings hope for the prisoner’s future. He reminds community that not all hope is lost.

“We cannot throw away the potential in a person because of one criminal offence, as incarceration seemingly puts life on pause there are others who must be given another chance to perfect their personal positive dreams.”

He directs the reader’s mind to the possibility that the solutions to the world’s problems might be locked up with a certain individual in prison.

However, the book seems the focus on those who will be set free one day, with those serving life sentences seemingly forgotten. In addition, his narrative does not provide a perspective on habitual criminals.

With his major source being the Bible, Apostle Machengete gives examples of characters and situations from the Holy Book.

He also makes use of both the living and late heroes who overcame conviction. However, the author could have made use of more local heroes so that the local market could identify more with his message.

John Maxwell and Dr Joyce Brothers, among others, were used as insight.

Overall, the book is not short on inspiration.
