Angeline Foundation makes case for kids

The Sunday Mail

Patrick Mzondo —
FAMILIES of children with disabilities and complex care needs find it extremely difficult to access specialist assistance and help. The state of the economy coupled with a near to non-existent Government budget allocation towards this cause is not making it any easier.

As a result families and children are missing out on basic assistance, support services and respite care that should be availed to them. As a country, the national data on special children has gaps, anomalies and inconsistencies and raises the question of how many children and families are being neglected especially in the remote and rural areas.

Organisations such as The Angeline Foundation have set a vision of communities where every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Under the directorship of Mr Patrick Lovemore Mzondo, their mission is to help deprived, excluded and vulnerable children to have the capacity to improve their own lives and have the opportunity to become young adults, parents and leaders who bring lasting and positive change in their communities.

With the never-ending daily economic challenges which have led to the exodus of many skilled working Zimbabweans across the borders in search of greener pastures, a big gap has been left void in terms of care provision for the less priviledged children.

Although emmigration has provided a new hope for many, those that cannot make the great trek are left in a quandary.

We should applaud the fact that many people in the Diaspora are sending money and goods for the sustenance of their families through different platforms but unfortunately this is only being concentrated on the immediate family which is mainly parents and siblings.

Not many people in the diaspora are looking out for the disadvanteged, disabled and intellectually challenged children. It is essential for Zimbabweans, especially those in the diaspora, to take it upon themselves and spare a few dollars and donate or directly sponsor a child in need, or donate to an institution which participates and aides in the protecting, valuing and advancing the worth and rights of disadvanteged, disabled and intellectually challenged children.

The Angeline Foundation is currently engaged in different sponsorship and donation activities mainly focused on children. These children are so much more than just survivors. They are becoming victors thanks to the opportunities being provided by sponsors including non-governmental institutions, but we cannot leave it to these organisations.

They cannot do it all by themselves.

Let us join hands and take care of our own. Let us share the social responsibilities. We all can be part of realising the growth and improvement of livelihoods in our communities especially for the disadvanteged children.

With commitment from sponsors and donors a real difference to communities can be made. Through sponsorship we give children the support they need to be their own agents of change. Sponsorship brings something positive to both your life and that of your sponsored child.

We should be an advocate for children to release them from their spiritual, economic and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible fulfilled adults.
