AS part of Christmas celebrations, the Remnant Ministries descended on the Midlands province last Thursday and provided free medical services and food to several underprivileged families in Zhombe and Gokwe.

The tour ends today in Gokwe. Church president, Dr Innocent Sibanda said they are emulating Jesus Christ.

“Jesus helped people who were poor, sick, and afflicted, and we are following his example,” said Dr Sibanda as he quoted Proverbs 19:17 which says, ‘Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed.’

“We encourage people to celebrate Christmas by helping at least one poor family or people in the streets by giving them a Christmas gift.

“The Bible says, ‘Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse (Proverbs 28v27),’” he said.

“If you perceive that someone needs help and it is within the power to assist, why wait for a holiday to act? Your kindness and compassionate actions will be blessed,” he said. The Apostle Paul gave advice to early Christians who wanted to help the poor. He said, ‘Every first day of the week let each of you at his own house set something aside in store as he may be prospering (1 Corinthians 16v2).”

“People should have a culture of setting aside or budgeting money that they can regularly give to individuals. In this way, one ensures that he or she cares for the needy while still giving within their means.

“Do not forget the doing of good and the sharing of things with others, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased (Hebrews 13v16). Besides the sharing, we must also remember to do good and helpful acts.

“For example, wise parents train their children to help the elderly with everyday tasks, to encourage the sick through get well soon cards, visits or phone calls. As a result, children grow up kind and generous,” Dr Sibanda said.
