FOOD and music enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend at the Harare International Food and Music Festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Harare’s Borrowdale Racecourse.
A brainchild of Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation, the festival is set to be held annually.
Local and international companies and individuals in the food industry will take part in this inaugural festival where they will exhibit their products and services.

An array of musicians and DJs from various genres will take part in five different themed shows.
Some of the artistes include Oliver Mtukudzi, Mokoomba, Fishers of Men, Sebastian Magacha, Reverend Chivaviro, Cal Vin, Junior Brown, The Movement, Jason Le Roux, DJ Ash Stylez and Nivek among others. Being a family friendly event, organisers have lined up shows covering various genres including the Jazz Night, Gospel Show, Hip-Hop Show, DJ Battle and Dreamstar Concert, guaranteeing entertainment for all and sundry.

Many people had become accustomed to the Harare International Festival of the Arts which usually kicks off around this time, and it will be hoped the new festival will build on this. Entrance is free for the exhibition section but tickets for shows range from US$5 to US$20 and are being sold on the Zimtickets website.

Marketing director Eddie Sanyanga said, “We are going to be celebrating the sound and taste of Zimbabwe and beyond so we expect people to come and embrace this cultural experience.”

“This is a must-attend event and we guarantee that people who are coming will leave with memories to cherish. International and local artistes are taking to the stage in five different shows and we have hundreds of food sector organisations ranging from restaurants, supermarkets, hotels, chefs and caterers among others who will exhibit their products. We have brought together both established and flourishing talent for the two-day event who will perform in shows constituting some of the popular genres including gospel, Jazz and hip-hop. Our intention is to provide an engaging atmosphere for everyone who is coming through so our programming will try to cater for everyone. Children will also have a playground, fully equipped with jumping castles, water slides, face-painting and other fun activities. Unlike other festivals that concentrate on the musical aspect, this one will be focusing more on food.

“Although we have an amazing line-up of music performers, food will be an integral part of the festival. After the festival we will give away prizes to the best dish, top chef and best exhibitor so we are expecting participants to bring their A-game to the event.”
Jacaranda Culture and Media Corporation promotes music and culture.

Besides being the brains behind talent show “Dreamstar”, they were instrumental in bringing musician Davido to Zimbabwe and are also partnering Red Rose Entertainment for the Chris Martin gig set for next Friday.
