IN January, Jive Zimbabwe came up with a concept to host joint birthday parties for celebrities every month of the year.

The first two editions were highly successful and have prompted organisers to re-think their strategy.

They are expanding the concept, going for even bigger parties starting with the one they are hosting today at Highlands Country Club in Harare.

This edition has been dubbed “Born March” to celebrate the birthdays of celebrities and ordinary people born in March.

Entry will cost US$5 but everyone who was born in March will get in free of charge.

Jah Prayzah’s manager Keen Mashapaidze, who was born this month, will be among the partying people and his star is expected to be there with him.

There will be no shortage of entertainment with the likes of Boom Beto, Judgement Yard and several Power FM DJs spicing up the event.

The brains behind the bash, Jive Music director Benjamin Nyandoro, will also be among those celebrating their birthday as he was born on March 13.

Speaking to The Sunday Mail Leisure, Nyandoro said while they had been anchoring their monthly birthday parties on celebrities, they had seen it fit to also involve ordinary people.

“At first we were just celebrating celebrity birthdays but we are now inviting the public to join the celebrities on what we are calling the ‘One Big Party’,” said Nyandoro.

The organisers have also taken kids into consideration by including several activities that they can enjoy.

“We have created space for kids who were born in March which is why the event will be starting at midday. We are going to have jumping castles, water slides, bull rides and many other activities that the kids can take part in.

“To make sure that food and beverages are affordable we have engaged several players like Bootleggers Liquor Store and Bellevue Butchery, which means drinks and meat for those who want to braai will be sold at retail prices.

“There are people who might be compelled to buy presents for their loved ones so we have also engaged several gift shops to come and sell their products at the venue.

“In terms of entertainment, we have partnered 2 Kings Entertainment so we will have several artistes and DJs including Boom Beto and Judgement Yard entertaining the crowd.”

And there is more good news. People will be allowed to bring their cooler boxes and food if they so wish.

The organisers have set up an SMS platform for people who want to be part of the celebrations to confirm their attendance.

“This party is not only open to people who were born in March because they will need their family and friends to also be there. We want people to come in their numbers so that we have one big memorable party.”
