THE country is set to host a regional importer and exporter conference in Harare in July.

The event, which is expected to attract regional participants from Eastern and Southern Africa, will particularly focus on trade in agricultural products.

Regional manager for Regional Agency for Agricultural Promotion and Advocacy Mr Retlaw Matorwa said last week there is need to evaluate and assess the achievements made towards promoting intra-regional trade of agricultural products.

“There is need to harness opinions and expertise from the region regarding the enhancement of intra-regional trade through interrogating various intra-regional trade instruments, facilities and polices. At the same time, there is need to address the key challenges facing agricultural trade in the region, including what policy measures and strategic interventions to put in place,” said Mr Matorwa.

An exhibition showcasing various key players in the import and export value chain, including private and public sector exhibitions from participants from East and Southern Africa, will be held simultaneously with the conference.

About 150 regional exhibitors are expected.

“This is an exhibition with a difference, as we are bringing in players with a regional focus and opportunities for strategic business synergies with local industry,” explained Mr Matorwa.

The Regional Agency for Agricultural Promotion and Advocacy was established in last year 4 as part of regional efforts to support the work of regional economic communities (REC’s) such as East African Community (EAC), Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) through publicizng, sensitizing and creating awareness of various commendable intra-regional trade facilities available in the region.
