DONGO SAWMILL, who have put their franchise up for sale owing to viability problems, are hoping to boost their coffers when they host an equally troubled Caps United at the 5 000-seat Vengere Stadium this afternoon.

Coach Shadreck “Father” Mugurasawe could also become the second Premiership coach to be fired after ZPC Kariba’s Saul Chaminuka if he fails to collect maximum points today.

Mugurasawe, the only coach yet to win after 10 rounds of action, requested two more games to get it right prior to the 1-1 draw with Tsholotsho FC last weekend.

After failing to secure maximum points against the fellow new boys, Mugurasawe is a man under pressure.

Dongo Sawmill owner Francis Dongo confirmed that the coach’s job was on the line.

He also expressed displeasure at Rusape Town Council who are charging the club a 20 percent levy for use of Vengere Stadium.

Dongo said the club’s average gross gate takings hovered just above US$3 000, as the Rusape community is still to warm up to the arrival of Premiership action to the area.

“These huge service charges are driving us out of football. We did an honourable thing bringing top flight football to Rusape but in response we are charged 20 percent levy by the council.

“Apart from the Highlanders match in which we grossed US$4 800, the rest of the games have raked in just above US$3 000 gross and if we deduct the money for service providers we are sometimes left with US$600 net,” lamented Dongo on Friday.

It is in this light that the businessman is appealing to the Rusape community to support the club.

“All the football lovers should come and support the team. Yes the team might be up for sale but it still remains ours. The gate charges remain at US$3 for the rest of the ground.

“Caps United is a football giant despite its problems so we expect a huge turnout, but the most important thing is to get all the three points. That is why we held a meeting with the head coach before the Tsholotsho FC match where he asked to be given two more games.

“He drew against Tsholotsho and if he loses on Sunday (today) I am afraid we will be forced to part ways,” said Dongo.

Dongo Sawmill anchor the log standings with just three points and are already firm candidates for the chop.

Dongo has priced the club at US$150 000 and there is speculation that PHD Ministries’ leader Prophet Walter Magaya will buy the franchise.
