They don’t call him Tyson for nothing!

In conformity with the resolutions of the 6th Zanu-PF National People’s Congress in 2014, is it not a known fact which Cde Tyson himself has repeatedly announced that all illusory and envisaged changes within the party will have to be approved by the party’s First Secretary and President, His Excellency, Cde Robert Mugabe?

The Sharp Shooter

Cde Saviour “Tyson” Kasukuwere is in the eye of the storm and if it had not been a cloud-seeded storm, one would have felt very sorry for him.

His crime is holding that powerful post within the revolutionary party which is called Secretary for the Commissariat.

It is a heavy post, and it is fitting that a comrade nicknamed Tyson holds it.

Just like the legendary heavyweight boxer Michael Gerard Tyson who was well known for his ferocious and intimidating boxing style, Cde Kasukuwere has a spellbinding vigour and vivacious personality that makes him the charismatic character that he is today.

Cde Tyson has endeared himself to the young generation (who are the future of this country by the way) and so it is folly to dismiss him as an over-ambitious “Young Turk” when he has the harsh and cumbersome responsibility of trying to patch up things in the ruling party.

Anyone who has clarity of recollection will without a doubt confess and concede the dynamism and vitality with which he drove the indigenisation agenda during his tenure in that volatile ministerial portfolio.

Now as Environment Minister we all still marvel at the gusto with which he addresses global concerns.

It is, therefore, a little perturbing for anyone to have the nerve to label him a traitor who is working with the West in a regime change agenda and yet we all know and can see the scars and bruises he has as a result of his bullish attitude towards enemies of Zimbabwe.

Listening to the heartbeat of the issue that caused the baying for Cde Tyson’s pound of flesh, the electorate simply gets confused.

Here is Cde Mavis Gumbo and here is Cde Terence Mukupe. Both are comrades-in-arms in their own right and for the removal of doubt of their popularity, they hold primary elections to determine who will represent the revolutionary party in the by-election to be held on June 10, 2015.

Cde Gumbo polls 369 votes while Cde Mukupe polls 651 votes.

Having got to this stage where votes are actually counted, recorded and announced the eligibility or lack of eligibility of the winner under such circumstances should rationally be immaterial.

But wait. There was Press conference dismissing the same as we heard with amazement and disbelief that “overzealous, overambitious and green Politburo members (are) bent on creating their own fiefdoms”.

How these “fiefdoms” are structured still boggles the mind.

Why a party of great revolutionary repute continues to allow such public pronouncements that can potentially alienate it from the electorate is a cause for dismay and concern.

With such in-fighting, the revolutionary party should thank the heavens for a fragmented and clueless opposition.

Whatever the outcome, in hindsight we shall acknowledge the relevance of Cde Tyson as this situation unfolds.

When Cde Mugabe appointed Cde Kasukuwere as party Commissar, he was as he still is of sound body and mind and he knew rightly so that the restructuring of the revolutionary party would take someone whose blood is reddest.

In essence, what is means is that in accusing Cde Kasukuwere of “running everywhere with wrong ideas” you are accusing the party’s First Secretary of “wrong ideas”.

This can only be described as unfortunate.

Those campaigning for multiple centres of power are in the very least delusional and at their worst, drunkards, as Cde Tyson said last week.

A drunkard is someone who does not know when to stop binging. A drunkard may get drunk in order to get the courage to settle a score once in a while but – it is usually only once in a very long while.

The reason being that the next time the drunkard gets drunk again, the score is ready to settle him or her.

A special correspondent writing in The Manica Post recently, beautifully summed why Cde Kasukuwere is equal to the task of Commissar: “He has the potential to transform the engine of the party, the Commissariat in multiple ways that will cement the importance of the party in this century and in generations to emerge in the future.

“The populace is firmly behind Zanu-PF, it is therefore incumbent upon the Commissariat to fashion the party’s organisational thrust in a manner that befit its status, a political giant locally, regionally, continentally and indeed globally.

“All those cadres who were implicated in any way to the failed attempts to usurp President Mugabe’s authority should be weeded out of the structures of the party. The populace has fallen in love with Zanu-PF policies which are in tandem with the people’s expectations hence what is needed is the organisational element which will ensure policies are translated to tangible programmes.

“This should be the way forward for the party of choice which continues to show compassion and empathy to the people’s needs.

“That President Mugabe is the sole centre of power in Zanu-PF and indeed the Government will ensure that all party and Government programmes will be discharged efficiently.

“This will also reduce conflict in the implementation of programmes as only one source of authority will delegate.

“The Commissariat has to ensure that the party is faction-less, united and solid from the grassroots level. The party’s Commissariat has to ensure that cadres who will be mandated to lead the party do not have any incriminating issues levelled against them.

“The Commissariat has to understand that the people will judge them by the outcome of their initiatives hence they have to ensure that the outcome of their exercise will be pro-people.”

As Commissar, Cde Tyson is between a rock and a hard place; between the devil and the deep blue sea. In essence, he is caught in between the rich and the poor, the men and the women, indeed between the Gamatox peddlers and the non-Gamatox friends.

Cde Tyson is a victim of his success, that is why they do not call him Tyson for nothing.

He is not the enemy. Drunkards are the enemy.

Dubulaizitha!
