VaShagare: Dr Masomere and his How Mine headache

LUKE MASOMERE has a propeller mouth and often talks himself into trouble.

At one time, when he was the Shabanie Mine coach, he professed his undying love for Dynamos just days before the Chinda Boys squared up against DeMbare at Rufaro.

Come on who does that?

Luke Masomere does.

For decades he has done business as Luke “Vahombe” Masomere but the man feels he now knows local football so well that he deserves to be called Dr Luke “Vahombe” Masomere.

Masomere is not a bad coach, one can argue that he is a good one, with the championship medal he won with Amazulu the major gong in his well loaded trophy shelf.

He has been to almost everywhere in a journeyman coaching career, Amazulu, Masvingo United, Caps United, Dynamos and Shabanie Mine have all experienced the Vahombe effect.

His latest assignment is at How Mine, a team that he saved from relegation last season before telling them that winning the championship will require the club, which is backed by Metallion Gold, to open up the cheque book.

On the back of that advice the club swooped on the Dynamos pair of Tawanda Muparati and Devon Chafa, the Highlanders trio of Munyaradzi Diya, Mgcini Sibanda and Charles Sibanda as well as Caps United skipper Tapuwa Khumbuyani.

Benjamin Marere is also back from FC Platinum while the likes of Menard Mupera, Kuda Musharu, Gilbert Banda, Wonder Sithole, Timothy January, Thembani Masuku, Young Warriors goalkeeper Donovan Bernard, Fungai Chirinda and Louis Matawu are still at the club.

That pre-season good business has seen How Mine, in a flash, becoming one of the best assembled squads in the country.

That new found status presents a big headache that Dr Masomere has to cure.

After spending the money from the mine, How Mine bosses expect a team that produces results as soon as yesterday.

However, there is a world of difference between a squad and a team.

The doctor has his work cut out for him.

The first task that Masomere has is to build a team from the collection of stars he has assembled at How Mine.

He has to do it quickly because the 2015 Castle Premier Soccer League season explodes to life next weekend.

Anything other than a storming start to the season will see pressure mounting on his shoulders, not even a puff of his favourite cigarette brand will be able to calm the situation.

How Mine have opened the cheque book, gone after every player Masomere pointed at and have captured most of those targets so the challenge is on the coach to deliver.

Money cannot buy everything but it can sure get you most things.

However, one of the few things that money cannot buy is a winning team.

Masomere will know that.

At Barbourfields this afternoon the nation has a chance to run the ruler on How Mine as they face Highlanders in the ZNA Charities semi final.

Just how hard will How Mine punch this season?

Time will tell.

Now that was one hell of a mess Stan and Charle!

Stan Kasukuwere and Charles Mabika were not happy with the installment of two weeks ago, just like Murape Murape was miffed about the one from last Sunday.

The duo were angry that I pointed out serious flaws in the manner they organised this year’s Bob Super Cup and told everyone of their anger.

Well we will hit them again today because they deserve it!

Stan Kasukuwere, Charles Mabika and the rest of the Bob Super Cup organising committee made a mess of organising that tournament and the chaos that was at Rufaro last Sunday where Dynamos silenced their noisy neighbours Caps United captured it all.

I saw The Sunday Mail deputy editor Munyaradzi Huni — a Caps United fan — drive away in frustration after failing to access the stadium, I saw journalists get into the stadium at half time and I saw thousands stampeding to gain entrance.

That was unacceptable Cde Kasukuwere and Mabika.

You know it and we will continue telling you until you get your act together.

Next year, if you are still organising this important tournament, we expect better.
