President Mugabe has sworn in Mr Prince Machaya as the new Attorney-General of Zimbabwe.

President Mugabe last week appointed Mr Machaya to replace Mr Johannes Tomana who was appointed Prosecutor General last year.

The ceremony was presided over by Vice President Mnangagwa after being duly authorised by the President to administer the oaths of loyalty and office to Mr Machaya.

In his preamble VP Mnangagwa said, “…And whereas in terms of Section 114(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Attorney-General assumes office upon taking before the President, or a person authorised by the President the oath of loyalty and office.”

The reading of the constitutional provision then saw Mr Machaya’s taking the oaths of loyalty and office

The swearing in was attended by Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku, Justice Rita Makarau, Prosecutor-General Mr Tomana among other lawyers and senior Government officials.
