The revolutionary party, Zanu-PF, is elated that its President and First Secretary Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe is now Chairman of the African Union.

Without a doubt, this is Zimbabwe’s moment of great honour and Africa must be proud to be led by such an icon of exceptional qualities.

President Mugabe is a man of impressive intellectual ability, revered across the progressive world for his principled, focused, courageous and pan-Africanist disposition.

He led our own liberation struggle with exceptional precision and it is our firm belief that his focus on unity, peace and development can only be a blessing to the African continent.

His challenge to his colleagues on the continent to pay attention to food security, infrastructure development, value-addition and beneficiation of our natural resources only augurs well for Africa’s desire for total economic emancipation.

Given his remarkable achievements at home on land reform, indigenisation and economic empowerment as well as the improvement of social services in spite of the illegal economic sanctions imposed by the West, it is more than clear that President Mugabe has the necessary determination and is more than ready to lead Africa in the right direction.

Most crucially, his universal endorsement by the African leadership is ample evidence that despite the West’s negative view of President Mugabe, Africa completely and absolutely adores him and will forever cherish his heroic deeds.

In the circumstances, Zanu-PF and all patriotic Zimbabweans congratulate the President for this milestone achievement as Chair of the AU and loudly say makorokoto, congratulations, amhlope!

May your legacy live on!
