The Zimbabwe cricket A team coach Shepherd Makunura says the forthcoming tour by Canada will be important for exposure and experience for young players.

The ZC development side will host the International Cricket Council Associate nation for four ODIs at Harare Sports Club.

Canada are expected in the country next week for the series running from January 6-12.

Makunura, whose side is expected to start camp tomorrow at Harare Sports Club, hopes the team will bounce back from an unsuccessful recent tour of Bangladesh.

“This is a very important tour, not only to the A side, but to Zimbabwe Cricket as a whole as it helps in player development and exposure.

“The team is coming from a tough tour of Bangladesh and hopefully can use home advantage to return to winning ways,’’ said Makunura, who takes charge of a side that lost 1-2 in an ODI series to Bangladesh A in September.

The Manicaland Mountaineers coach added:

“It is important for players to get game time and if this continue happening, then our players will develop and learn more about the game.”

Makunura hailed the selectors for including youngsters in the 17-member squad.

“I think it is a balanced squad that has also included youngsters who will learn from the experienced guys like Tawanda Mupariwa, who brings in experience to the side.

“This will be important to the youngsters who are important for the future and I am glad there are some positive prospects,” he said.

Big-hitting batsman Cephas Zhuwao could make a return to international cricket since 2008 when he played his only ODI.

The 30-year old Mashonaland Eagles player, who is also included in the national team 30-man World Cup squad, said he has worked hard to earn this call and would want to make it count.

“It feels good to be back in the national set up, I have been working hard and waiting for this opportunity and I hope to do well.

“I have had quite an experience especially when I played for Lashing World XI in England, playing with veterans like Inzaman Al Haq and Mohammed Yusuf,” said Zhuwao.
