SPORT – by VaShagare: Shut thy sour mouth Saul Chaminuka

The Sunday Mail

SAUL CHAMINUKA has been making a lot of wild claims ever since the day his ZPC Kariba outfit connived to hand Dynamos the league title a fortnight ago.

It looks as if Saul is a sour loser.

Excuse me, I am not used to protocol.

Gentle reader welcome to this new column and many thanks to Charles “CNN” Mabika for the good work he did.

The guy is a legend.

I grew up listening to him and Evans Mambara on the then Radio One (now SFM).

The way they described the action taking place on the field of play made me feel as though I was at Rufaro when I was actually at Mafindifindi in Mhondoro, Ngezi.

Taking over from Charles is not easy.

I don’t know why the switch was made; The Sunday Mail Acting Editor Mabasa Sasa did not give me a brief when I was taken to his office by Makomborero Mutimukulu for introductions.

However, I do know that this space is valuable and has to be put to good use.

I am a Dynamos supporter and the founder of the popular Facebook page DeMbare DotComs, which has over 182 000 likes.

However, I will be dumping the Dynamos allegiance to wear a national hat in the 18-Area.coms.

I will look at issues through national lenses.

Some will quickly dismiss my pledge to be fair and balanced but it’s a talk I intend to walk.

That does it for the protocol, let’s chew into it.

Chaminuka suddenly alleges that there was a ploy to make sure that ZPC Kariba did not win the 2014 league title.

He says that with no shame but it’s shameful.

When did he get wind of this plot?

Why did he not raise alarm bells then? Prior to the last day 2-3 loss to Caps United, our friend Saul never said a word about this plot, all he ever talked about was how his team deserves to be champions and how they worked hard for it.

After it all went wrong, thanks to questionable tactical calls, the ZPC Kariba gaffer started speaking of biased officiating and raised concern about the Premier Soccer League’s decision to fixture his team’s tie with Makepekepe for Gwanzura instead of the National Sports Stadium.

No Saul, we won’t buy that sorry story. Chaminuka is clutching at straws and pretending to be dull.

His team had one hand on the championship but messed it up.

Dynamos made the most of that ZPC implosion to claim a fourth consecutive league title and confirm Kallisto Pasuwa as a coaching god.

While Saul has been pointing at everyone and everything as responsible for his team’s failure, his assistant coach Godfrey Tamirepi has been honest.

Tamirepi, a respected gaffer in his own right, admits that they got their tactics wrong against Caps United.

There was no need to go for an all out attacking approach in a game from which ZPC needed a draw to claim the league crown, reflected Tamirepi amid some painful soul searching.

At least there is a man of honour at Kauya Katuruturu.

Was that Henrietta Rushwaya?

Henrietta Rushwaya made a rare football appearance at the Gushungo Victory Cup last Sunday.

She is still the same old hyper active, big posterior and talkative woman.

I was surprised to see Rushwaya, who was at the National Sports Stadium in her capacity as a member of Gushungo Victory Cup fundraising committee, exchanging a handshake and smiles with Zifa chief executive Jonathan Mashingaidze.

A few days after that appearance, Rushwaya unleashed a bombshell.

She wants her suspension lifted and her job, the one which Mashingaidze is employed in, back.

Oh Henrietta, the daughter of Rushwaya, you are the 18-Area.coms inaugural Personality of the Week!

Well done Bosso

Highlanders put up one of their best performances against DeMbare last Sunday and their coach Mark Mathe had every reason to be “very happy.”

Yes his team blew it during penalties but the Bosso mentor saw his charges make a fight of it.

One couldn’t help but wonder what magic Mathe was talking about in his post match television interview with Charles Mabika?

“In the penalty shoot-out I told my guys that ‘look God has let us come this far for a reason’, so I asked for that ounce of more character, one ounce of more mental strength and it was going as we were taking those penalties then unfortunately the magic turned things around and Dynamos found the mental strength to overturn the penalty lottery and they won,” Mathe told Charles.

On that magical note, VaShagare leaves the scene.
