Zanu-PF Youth League members should shun factionalism and work towards the success of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset), party National Chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo has said.

In his welcome remarks at the Zanu-PF Youth League Conference on Friday, Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the wing should aim to fulfill the conference theme, Zim Asset: Growing the Economy for Youth Empowerment and Employment.

He added that Zanu-PF’s various organs must work in unison to ensure the party progresses.

“Like a traditional iron pot, which produces the most mouth-watering and nutritious food, our revolutionary party stands on three legs. These are the Main Wing, the Women’s League and of course the Youth League.

“Like that cast iron pot, our party, on these three legs does not fall over when it is pushed, it does not crack when it is put on the hottest fires. And every time that pot, on its three legs, has served our people with admirable precision.”

He went on, “Comrades, weaken or remove any of the three legs, the pot falls over and it is rendered useless like opposition parties. Zanu-PF is no shopping mall, where some people dream of shopping for positions. You work for the party. Party inoshandirwa. Iparty iyasetshenzelwa.

“Its three legs; the Main Wing, the Women’s League and the Youth League, must be strong and ready to carry the weight of the party. They must expect and relish the prospect of going through fires sometimes and they must know that they are physically and intellectually supporting the cauldron, which is Zanu-PF.”

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said shunning ills such as factionalism and corruption was critical to the success of Zim Asset.

“This calls for discipline, focused conduct and hard work. Such a mission shuns corruption, factionalism, tribalism and regionalism.

“The Zanu-PF Youth League of today, being confronted with a counter-revolution from within the country, which is sponsored by former settlers, who would want to reverse the victory of the war that the previous generation of youth won so resoundingly, must now reenergise themselves and enter the war of their generation and win — the successful implementation of Zim Asset, the empowerment of the people and creation of employment.

“Although the results of Zim Asset will provide prosperity for a long time to come, the strategy should be implemented during the time period 2013-2018. This conference being held during 2014, shows that there is now some urgency to start reporting on the realised quick-wins that are clearly articulated in the document.”
